MAYDAY Magazine, published by New American Press, presents new writing, art, and commentary to a growing community of international readers. We’re interested in exploring and engaging a wide spectrum of ideas and perspectives. We’re interested in culture and history, politics regional and global, the past, present, and future. We’re literary and at the same time recognize that great literature has often been a genre literature since the beginning—we’re fans of sci-fi and fantasy, comedy, crime writing, mysteries noir and otherwise. We’re also interested particularly in writers who have been marginalized historically, including writers of color, queer and trans writers, disabled writers, and others who have suffered systemic discrimination.
Since 2009, we have featured poetry, fiction, translations, and commentary by such writers as Alex Cigale, Paul Crenshaw, Rana Dasgupta, Kathy Fagen, Annie Finch, Alan Heathcock, Christopher Higgs, T. R. Hummer, Mary Kasimor, Daniil Kharms, David Kirby, Maya Kóvskaya, Abdellatif Laâbi, Craig Nova, Daniele Pantano, David R. Slavitt, Mark Smith-Soto, Robert Walser, and Jillian Weise, as well as paintings, photography, and other visual art by José Ð Almeida, Han Bing, Aleksandra Bogdanova, Barbara Hamby, and Sheng Qi, among others.
