MAYDAY is hiring for the following positions:
Production editor
As part of the managing editor’s office, the production editor at MAYDAY is responsible for layout and publishing all MAYDAY content. In addition to a general interest in literary publishing, we will be particularly drawn to applicants with backgrounds/interests in digital journalism and publishing, as well as those who can demonstrate experience proofing or editing copy. MAYDAY is published on WordPress, so experience with this platform will be helpful, but it’s not prohibitively difficult to learn, either. Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style will also be helpful
Promotions manager
As part of the managing editor’s office, the promotions manager at MAYDAY acts as the official “voice” of the magazine, writing all the ad copy for the website, social media, and our bimonthly newsletter. In this role, the promotions manager assists MAYDAY in promoting new content, contests, special events, and volunteer recruitment searches. In this capacity, the promotions manager is always searching for creative new ways to promote MAYDAY’s content and initiatives. Thus, in addition to a strong background in (specifically copy) writing and editing, competitive candidates will be able to demonstrate their familiarity with the literary publishing scene and MAYDAY’s place within it as an independent publishing cooperative.
Editorial assistant to director — MAYDAY:Black
MAYDAY is seeking a dynamic and ambitious individual interested specifically in providing a platform for Black writers in contemporary literary publishing. The editorial assistant will help the director of MAYDAY:Black in developing a multifaceted publishing initiative that provides professional and educational opportunities for Black youth and aspiring Black writers of all ages. Ideal candidates are those who demonstrate superior organizational and administrative skills, and who resonate organically and passionately with the lived experiences of our target audience.
We invite applications until the position is filled.
