Instagram Envy
by Meg Johnson

July 13, 2020 Contributed By: Meg Johnson

Women with platinum blonde hair, cream

colored sweaters, light tan pants, lie on beds

with white sheets, no blankets. Brunettes

wear thong bikinis, have their nails done, do

handstands. The redheads are slim with large

breasts. 1 in 4 people are vacationing in Bali.

It’s been five years. You overslept again.

Style an overhead photo with a rope, a butterfly

wing, a plastic flower, a handgun, a lock

of hair, a padlock, one

mitten.

Post images of empty landscapes as

if no one has survived.

DAISY FRIED’S RESPONSE TO “SOME DARKER BOUQUETS”

Possible and Impossible Truths About Reviewing Snottiness, contempt, unfairness, mockery, drollery, cruel wit: These are signs of vigor. So is generosity. Vigor in art creates vigor in criticism, not the other way around. Of course there should be negative reviewing. Anonymous reviews may be entertaining, but seem unlikely to be useful. We may enjoy seeing […]

Ship of Dreams (Sueños del Atlántico)

SUPPORT GROUP: MENTAL ILLNESS by David Dasher

Step, and step, and step, and step, down to the basement, always the basement, kicking salt-slush off boots against every stair, the basement overheated, overlit like an incubator, with skittery sparrows in the lobby, lounging watchful, then the move to the meeting-room, pushing chairs into circles, lopsided as eggs—Who’s first? Who will be first? Who […]
