KATHERINE L. WIEGELE has a PhD in Cultural Anthropology and has traveled extensively, including around four years of residence in the Philippines, as a researcher and Peace Corps Volunteer. Her book, Investing in Miracles: El Shaddai and the Transformation of Popular Catholicism in the Philippines, was published in both the US (2005, University of Hawaii Press) and the Philippines (2007, Ateneo de Manila Press), where in 2007 it was awarded a National Book Award (first place in religion/theology) by the Manila Critics Circle and the National Book Development Board. She has also published numerous articles and book chapters dealing with cultural life in the Philippines.
